Married man arrested for raping 17-year-old girl

Surat: A 35-year-old married man was arrested for raping a 17-year-old girl in Dindoli area of the city. She was lured into having an affair with him on a false promise of marriage, but when she became pregnant he threatened to kill her if she told anyone about her sexual exploitation. Later, wife and his sister-in-law of the accused made her undergo abortion.
Two years ago, the girl had gone for work to Ayub, who sells snacks for livelihood. He employed the girl for household work and began to molest her 18 months ago, police said. The accused told her he will divorce his wife and marry her. On learning about the girl’s pregnancy, Ayub’s wife Julekhabanu and his sister-in-law Shabnam made her undergo abortion. The girl’s mother came to know about it and she went and quarrelled with Ayub and his family members. The accused threatened her and also the rape survivor, police said.

The girl registered a rape complaint against the accused at Dindoli police station on Thursday. She also filed a complaint against the two women for helping the accused. Ayub was arrested by police on Friday.

“We have arrested the accused and sent the girl for medical examination. The two women will also be arrested for helping the accused,” a police officer said.

The accused has been booked under Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act sections.
