The Rajinikanth – Akshay Kumar sci-fi film, 2.0, which hit screens on November 29, has collected over ₹500 crore globally at the box office. This includes earnings from the Tamil, Telugu and Hindi versions. Lyca Productions, the producers of the film, posted a tweet that said: “Surging Into Week 2.. Crossing Borders.. According to trade analysts in Tamil Nadu and Mumbai, the film has made ₹392 crore in India and over ₹128 crore in the global market.
The Hindi version of the film raked in over ₹132 crore in the first 7 days.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh, said that this was Rajinikanth’s highest grossing film ever in Hindi. “This is now the second-highest grossing Hindi-dubbed film, surpassing the lifetime business of Baahubali (first part),” he added.
Director and producer Karan Johar posted a tweet on behalf of Dharma Productions, which was instrumental in distributing this film in the Hindi market. The tweet said: "A box office PHENOMENA!!!! 500 crores worldwide!!!!! We at @DharmaMovies are so proud to be associated with the HINDI version of this movie marvel!!!!"
The film, which was made on a lavish budget of over ₹540 crore, collected over ₹80 crore in the Indian market on its first day.

Last month, Vijay-starrer Sarkar collected over ₹250 crore at the box office worldwide. In 2017, his film Mersal surpassed ₹200 crore within first two weeks of release. Ajith Kumar-starrer Vivegam, which hit the screens in 2017, collected over ₹165 crore.
No mechanism
Theatre owners across Tamil Nadu appreciated the fact that the film had entered the ₹500 crore club. But they also said that box-office collections are not always accurate as there is no proper mechanism or formula to track the actual numbers.
“These are numbers which producers and people associated with the film come out with to create a curiosity factor among audience," said the owner of a theatre in Chennai.
The dubbed and subtitled versions of 2.0 will release in China in May 2019 across 10,000 theatres on 56,000 screens. Industry analysts said that this market would bring in more revenues for the film.
