Superb Habbu makes his way in knockouts

Pune: Wisdom World School’s Vivek Habbu displayed great form as he brushed aside Shivam Munjal of Kendriya Vidyalaya in the round of 16 of boy’s Under-16 badminton singles event at Sakal presents Mapro Schoolympics here on Friday.

He was joined in the quarter-finals by Aryan Shetty, Siddheya Masurkar, Aditya Nebhrajani and 
Arya Thakore.

Habbu though, hardly broke sweat as he gave away just 12 points to his opponent from Talegaon Kendriya Vidyalaya.

He will enter the next round full of confidence and form.

In the girls Under-16 singles event, Gargi Tendulkar held her nerve to beat Asmit Shedge of Jnana Prabodhini Nigdi school 15-9, 12-15, 16-14 in a come from-behind win.

The Abhinav Vidyalaya English Medium student raised her game at the crucial moment in the deciding third game as she trailed by 2 points. But then she registered five straight points to floor her opponent.

Pooja Deshpande of Renuka Swaroop High School, Shreya Shelar of Ahilyadevi High School and Ishita Chaphekar of Dr Kalmadi Shamrao High School were others to make it to the next knockout rounds.

Ishita featured in a close match, but scored a straight-game win over Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan’s Siddhi Shinde in 15-13, 15-9 contest.
