Empowered expert committee recommends 19 more institutes for IoE status

The Empowered Expert Committee, which is looking into the Institute of Eminence (IOE) matter, has recommended 19 more institutes to the University Grants Commission (UGC) for grant of IoE status.

The names of the 19 institutes formed part of the second report that the Empowered Expert Committee submitted to UGC on Friday. The 19 names covered both public and private institutions.

Some of the names in the list of public institutions include, Banras Hindu University, Aligarh Muslim University and Savithribai Phule Pune University. On the other hand, the list of private institutes included names of Azim Premji University, Ashoka University, Institute of Public Health Sciences to name a few.

Total of 12 private institutes found a place in the newly recommended list. While the number of public institutes which made it to list this time were seven.

So far, three public and three private institutes have already been given the IoE status.

The objective of giving IoE status to the Indian institutes is to provide an enabling regulatory architecture to ten public and ten private higher educational institutions.
