BENGALURU: Siddaganga Mutt chief pontiff Sri Shivakumara Swamiji, 111, will be airlifted to Chennai from Bengaluru on Friday afternoon for further treatment.
The mutt authorities decided on taking him to Chennai for further surgical intervention, after a team of expert surgeons from Chennai visited the mutt on Thursday. He will be admitted at Dr Rela Institute and Medical Centre in Chennai.
Speaking to TOI, Dr Mohamed Rela, renowned liver transplant surgeon, chairman and director of the hospital, said that Swamiji is suffering from a condition called Cholecystitis, caused by inflammation of gall bladder.
“This condition is commonly seen in younger population, but rarity among geriatric patients. No more endoscopic procedure can help him. The only option left is liver bypass. We still have to assess his condition before deciding upon on operating him, as his age is a major factor,” said Dr Rela.
Dr Rela was earlier working in Bengaluru and had treated the seer two years ago.
