The State will see an unprecedented deployment of security personnel across the 119 constituencies which are going to polls in single phase on Friday.

Over 95,000 security personnel, including 25,000 from paramilitary forces and 20,000 from other State police departments will be deployed across the State, said Additional DGP, Law and Order, Jitender.

“Although there is no movement of Maoists in the State, Central forces are extensively deployed at over 4,000 critical polling stations in Left-Wing Extremist (LWE) areas bordering Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra to prevent untoward incidents,” he said here on Thursday.

In the last three months, a few militants and Maoist cadres were arrested by the State police, the Additional DGP said.

Apart from Central Reserve Police Force, Railway Protection Force and other forces, police from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh have also been pressed into service, Mr Jitender said. Till Thursday evening, the police seized ₹ 93.08 crore in cash and about 5.37 lakh litres of liquor worth ₹ 2.37 crore.
