A 30-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing a taxi driver in north-west Delhi’s Jahangirpuri on Tuesday, the police said on Thursday.
They said the accused, Yogesh, stabbed the victim for talking to his live-in partner.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Aslam Khan said Yogesh has been arrested for allegedly killing Mehtab.
Yogesh, also a taxi driver, was in a live-in relationship with a woman for over 10 years and objected to Mehtab talking to her.
Killed on Tuesday
“Mehtab was in touch with the woman for the last few months. When Yogesh got to know about it, he did not like it. On Tuesday, he made the woman call Mehtab telling him that she has come to meet him,” said a senior officer.
Mehtab came and saw the woman sitting in a car with Yogesh.
‘Do whatever you can’
The police said Yogesh asked Mehtab to stop talking to the woman but he said: “I will talk… You do whatever you can”.
As Mehtab stepped out of the car, Yogesh stabbed him and fled the spot.
‘Woman had no idea’
“The woman had no idea that he would kill Mehtab,” the officer said.
Following this, Mehtab walked towards the gate of Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital where he collapsed.
The locals then rushed him inside but he was declared brought dead.
