Polling officials of two stations here may not have a satisfying meal for the next few days. In the thick of things on the election day on Friday, officials of two stations in the Thungathurthy constituency — Veluguapalli (213) and B.C. Colony (291) in Suryapet — closed the polling booths for lunch and the officials remained absent on the premises for sometime.
But soon, videos of both the polling booths, one of which was locked, with women voters waiting outside and a policeman as guard, went viral on social media platforms.
Official sources said it was the hectic schedule, that started at 5 a.m. which forces the officials to take a break when the turnout was very low. However, locking up the PS is a serious violations as the electronic voting machines and other poll related material remained unsecured, it was pointed.
While no senior official was available for a comment, sources said that the senior officials had taken note of the issue. An inquiry, and disciplinary action will be initiated after the poll exercise is completed.
