MSU syndicate clears 10% increase in salaries for temporary teachers
tnn | Dec 8, 2018, 04:00 ISTVadodara: In times of high inflation, temporary teachers of M S University, who do most of the teaching work at the campus, will get some relief from the next academic year.
The university has decided to hike salary of temporary teachers by 10% from 2019-20. The proposal to increase salary of temporary teaching staff was cleared by university’s syndicate body during their meeting on Thursday.
It is worth mentioning here that earlier ahead of the Diwali festivities the university had cleared salary hike of temporary non-teaching staff members.
After the university took the decision of hiking salaries of temporary non-teaching staff members of the regular courses, those non-teaching staffers who are enrolled in the higher payment courses, had demanded that their salaries should also increase.
The representation has been forwarded to the committee comprising of syndicate members who will go through the nitty-gritty’s and suggest the stand that the university should adopt.
Although the salary hike of temporary teaching staff members has come after the decision to hike salaries of non-teaching staff members, sources said that the university has taken the decision as there was an anomaly in the salaries paid to the teaching staff.
Going by the payment that the university pays to the programme officers, who are hired on contractual basis for a period of one year, the university had actually started paying more to the programme officers compared to the temporary teaching staffers, many of whom are working since several years.
After the 10% hike, temporary teachers will be getting marginally more compared to the programme officers at the university. For instance, the programme officers were getting a lump sum amount of Rs 21,000 per month whereas the temporary teachers were getting Rs 20,000. After the 10% hike, the temporary teachers will start getting Rs 22,000.
