A 12-year-old girl was found dead at her residence in west Delhi’s Inderpuri on December 1, the police said on Thursday.

The police found a note by the girl stating that she was constantly scolded by her schoolteacher.

The Class VII student of a Naraina Vihar-based school was found hanging when her mother returned home from work on December 1, the police said.

Apart from the note, she had written on her arm that the school must be informed about her death, they added.

The girl’s mother, who is a lawyer, said she was crying when she returned home from school on November 30.

When the mother enquired, the girl told her that her biology teacher had scolded and insulted her in front of the class teacher.

‘Will not go to school’

The victim allegedly had told her mother that she will never go back to school.

When the mother woke her up for school on December 1, the girl allegedly told her she did not want to go to school. The mother allowed her to stay home and left for work. When she returned home at 4 p.m., she saw her daughter hanging. The woman rushed the girl to a hospital, where she was declared brought dead. The police was informed about the incident. The woman said her daughter had been telling her for the past three months that her teacher misbehaved with her and that she wanted to change her school.

The woman said she regretted not paying attention to her daughter’s demand.

‘Told her friends’

The girl’s family said she had on November 30 told her friends that she will end her life. When the friends insisted on telling her mother about her plan, she assured them saying she will not follow through but will also not return to school.

The girl has stated in the note that she loves her mother and maternal grandmother. The victim lived with her mother, who got divorced a few years ago. The mother said she had plans for her daughter’s birthday on December 20.

Meanwhile, the school has issued a statement saying they are conducting an internal enquiry.

“We as a responsible institution are fully cooperating with the investigating authority and are also actively conducting an enquiry at our level internally,” the statement read.

A senior officer said the matter is being probed and that no first information report has been registered.
