Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik has instructed all district DCPs to be more vigilant and respond swiftly to sensitive calls in the wake of Bulandshahr incident and ongoing elections in States.
The issue was discussed at a crime review meeting convened by Mr. Patnaik on Wednesday.
A senior police officer said that they have instructed all SHOs and beat staff to be more vigilant and keep an eye on anti-social elements. “We have communicated to animal rescuers in the city to inform police if they suspect any vehicle involved in cow smuggling. They have been warned against legal action if they get involved,” the officer added.
The police said they are keeping an eye on rumour-mongers on social media. The person who is found promoting or propagating hate messages or communal post on social media will be held and prosecuted.
PCR calls
“PCR calls about cow smuggling or finding beef in any particular area are taken on high priority and a senior police officer takes care of the situation. In case the meat is suspected to be cow meat, it is sent to a laboratory for tests for further action,” added the officer.
Areas like Trilokpuri, Seelampur, Welcome, Jaffrabad, Kalyanpuri, Khichripur, Dakshinpuri, Ambedkar Nagar, Madangir, Jahangirpuri, Rana Pratap Bagh, Majnu Ka Tila are communal-sensitive areas.
On Wednesday morning, residents in Trilokpuri found posters by the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) on several walls which read “Babri Masjid will be constructed again”. It requested people to gather for a rally.
Poster inquiry
When East district police officers were contacted, they said they were unaware of such posters in the locality but have ordered an inquiry into the matter.
“We have already deployed police personnel in plain clothes to keep an eye on antisocial elements. The police informers have also been instructed to inform police about any suspicious movement,” said an officer.
On December 3, two people, including a police inspector, were killed after a mob clashed with the police in protest against illegal slaughterhouses in Bulandshahr. The clash broke out after a mob had gathered outside a police station complaining that they had discovered cow carcasses in their locality and accused the police of not taking action in the case.
