PATNA: A team of vigilance investigation bureau led by DSP Gopal Paswan arrested a building construction department (BCD) executive engineer Subhash Kumar Gupta (55) while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 75,000 from a contractor at Biharsharif in Nalanda district on Thursday.
Gupta was arrested from his chamber at BCD office. Vigilance sources said the executive engineer had initially demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh but later agreed to accept Rs 75,000 from a contractor Sanjay Kumar for clearing his bill of Rs 35 lakh pending with the department.
Soon after this, Sanjay lodged a complaint with the vigilance bureau on November 25. “The contractor’s allegations were verified and found to be true on November 29 after which a trap team was formed to nab the engineer who is a native of Khagaria and has a house in Patna also,” sources said.
Sanjay owns a construction firm and is engaged in construction worth Rs 19 crore for BCD in Nalanda district.
