The 76th Golden Globe Awards nominations are nearly here, meaning you're this much closer to knowing which shows you need to binge-watch over your holiday break to feel relevant during the 2019 awards season. There's one show you won't have to catch up on, though, because it's not getting any noms: Game of Thrones!

Usually, Game of Thrones sweeps several categories and shatters records when it comes to awards shows, but this year HBO's hit fantasy drama won't be getting any recognition from The Hollywood Foreign Press. Before you grab your pitchforks, there's an entirely reasonable explanation for their lack of nominations. As you may have noticed, it's been a while since we've gotten new Game of Thrones episodes. The hiatus between Seasons 7 and 8 has lasted almost a year and a half already, and we're still going to have to wait until April to see the final season. Besides driving us all crazy with this waiting, this hiatus also means Game of Thrones isn't eligible for the 2019 Golden Globes since there's been no new season to consider for any of these awards. A similar incident happened with the 2017 Emmy Awards last year when Season 7 premiered after the submission date closed, making it ineligible.

Never fear though! Game of Thrones eighth and final season will qualify for both the 2019 Emmy Awards and the 2020 Golden Globes. We just have to be very patient, which is luckily something Thrones fans have gotten pretty good at over the years.

Game of Thrones will return in April on HBO. The 76th Golden Globe Awardsairs Sunday, Jan. 6 at 8/7c on NBC.
