Three arrested for cheating

PUNE: Officials of the Cyber Crime Cell (CCC) of the City Police Crime Branch recently arrested three persons for alleged involvement in cheating more than three persons on the pretext of offering a loan. The arrested accused are identified as Suraj Mane (31), Mangesh Mane (24) from Katraj and Swapnil Thakur (29) from Morwadi in Pimpri.

As per officials of the Cyber Crime Cell,  Jabirsingh Sehgal (28) from Vishrantwadi lodged a complaint that he was cheated to the tune of Rs 15,000. Sehgal received a phone call where the caller offered a loan. Later Sehgal was asked to submit documents and a cancelled cheque. Sehgal then realised that his cancelled cheque was used to withdraw Rs 15,000 from his account. 

After investigation, the three accused were arrested. The police then found they had cheated two more persons to the tune of Rs 50,000. The police said the accused have cheated a person on OLX website, where after taking a camera on rent, the accused sold the camera. 

The police recovered a laptop, six mobile phones, 10 sim cards, three forged Aadhaar cards and four debit cards from the accused.

The investigation team included Police Inspector Radhika Phadke, Police Sub-Inspector Anita Pawar and policemen Pooja Dahale, Aadesh Chalwadi, Bhushan Shelar, Nitin Chandane, Rahul Handal and Somnath Borde.
