MUMBAI: Maharashtra environment minister Ramdas Kadam has alleged that builders and land mafias are behind the fire that broke out on a private plot adjoining to Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) and Aarey Colony near Dindoshi in Goregaon (East).
Kadam, who has already demanded that an inquiry be conducted in the fire incident, visited the site on Thursday.
Kadam said that he has been told by the locals that trees that were on that plot were chopped just before the fire incident.
"Why did they chop the trees. It looks that some interested party was trying to clear up the land by making it look like a fire incident," said Kadam.
He said that according to the details he has there are issues with the land records of the said land and the measurement of the land too hasn't been done by the revenue officials.
Kadam has also instructed the police, the BMC and the pollution control board to investigate the incident and take action if violations are found.
"Almost 150 acres of area has been affected by the incident. I will ensure that action is initiated against those found to be guilty," said Kadam.
