BOSTON — Pitcher Nathan Eovaldi, who wowed fans and his teammates with a remarkable World Series performance, has reached an agreement to return to the Red Sox, according to Ken Rosenthal, of The Athletic.

The agreement is contingent on Eovaldi passing a physical, Rosenthal said.

Eovaldi, a 28-year-old right-hander, appeared as a reliever and threw an astounding 97 pitches in the marathon 18-inning World Series game in Los Angeles. While it went down in the record books as a loss, the performance earned him high praise from his teammates and Red Sox manager Alex Cora.

Eovaldi, who came to the Red Sox from the Tampa Bay Rays, came to the Red Sox during the 2018 season. He has 44 career wins with an ERA of 4.16.
