M. Subair, Deputy Superintendent of Police, District Crime Records Bureau (Kozhikode Rural) has been entrusted with the investigation into the seizure of counterfeit currency notes and printing accessories from a gang of three who were arrested by the Balussery police on Tuesday. The case was handed over to the Dy.SP following a tip- off that the gang had connections with big rackets.

Balussery native Rajesh Kumar, 45; Ernakulam native Wilbert, 43, and Nallalam native Vysakh, 24, were the three arrested in connection with the case on Tuesday. The police team led by Balussery Station House Officer K. Sushir had seized the the printers and papers which were used by the gang to make the fake currencies at a rented house in Balussery.

Mr. Sushir said the case was handed over to the Dy.SP taking into account of its seriousness. “As investigation is on, we have not disclosed the size of the seizure. There were fully printed and partially printed notes. We have also not ruled out the possibility of circulating the fake notes in various locations,” he said

Mr. Subair, who was entrusted with the probe, said the three accused were found to have involvement in many other cases. “The police have produced all the seized accessories at the court. The accused are in judicial custody now,” he said.

The three, who became friends during their jail term in Kozhikode in connection with various cases, were found to be experts in forging currency notes in the denominations of ₹500 and ₹2,000. Most of the seized notes were in the denomination of ₹2,000.

Wilfred, one of the accused, had involvement in a similar fake currency printing case. It was Wilfred who initiated the other two into the business. Their custody would be sought in the court as part of intensifying the probe, the police said.
