With
Kedarnath’s release just a day away, controversies surrounding the Abhishek Kapoor directorial are at its peak.
A new PIL (public interest litigation) has been filed in the Bombay High Court, accusing the film of hurting Hindu sentiments and promoting ‘love jihad’ among the youth.
Demanding a total ban on the film, the PIL filed by advocates Prabhakar Tripathi and Rameshchandra Mishra says, “The storyline is cooked-up, imaginary, and the movie is a untrustworthy story of love between a Hindu Brahmin girl and a Muslim boy connected with the natural disaster of Uttarakhand.”
“The filmmakers have, by making such type of movie and releasing the trailer, made attempts to outrage and play with our religious sentiments using the name and abode of lord Shiva,” it adds.
Starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan,
Kedarnath is a love story set in the backdrop of the devastating 2013 Uttarakhand floods. In the film, Sara plays Mukku, an upper-class Hindu pilgrim and Sushant plays Mansoor, a Muslim ‘pithoo’ (porter) who carries children and the old to Kedarnath, a holy Hindu shrine located in the foothills of the Himalayas.
Meanwhile, the Gujarat High Court on Wednesday dismissed another PIL seeking a ban on the film’s release, calling the petition by Prakash Rajput, president of International Hindu Sena, a "publicity stunt".
Blaming the film for "twisting every truth about the sacred place," another PIL has been filed in the Uttarakhand High Court requesting that its release be stalled.
Jointly produced by Abhishek Kapoor and Ronnie Screwvala,
Kedarnath is slated to release on December 7.
