France stunned Olympic champions Argentina 5-3 on December 6, to seal their place in the knockout stages. Despite the defeat, Argentina finished on top of the Pool to qualify for the quarterfinals. In the other game, New Zealand fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Spain and move into the final qualification spot for the knockouts.
India have so far enjoyed a decent run in the group stage of the 2018 Hockey World Cup being played in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The host nation defeated South African in the opening game, which was followed by a spirited draw against Belgium. India can secure direct qualification to the quarterfinals with a win against Canada on December 8.
