TN govt to distribute 12,000 cattle to poor people free of cost

CHENNAI: People living in western region of the Tamil Nadu will be added to the list of beneficiaries, who will get free livestock and country chicken, said state animal husbandry minister Udumalai Radhakrishnan on Thursday.
The minister told the media after attending the convocation of the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University here that the beneficiaries had been identified in Coimbatore, Erode, Tirupur, Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts. They will get free cattle, goats and four weeks old native chicken species called Aseel.
A total of 12,000 cattle, six lakh goats and 38.50 lakh native chicken would be distributed free of cost to those below the poverty line, he said.
The government has issued an order for procuring free cattle, goat or native chicken species.
The government has recruited more than 800 veterinarians, who have completed their degree courses in the four veterinary colleges in the state. The new recruits would serve in rural areas, he added.
