Protecting the Constitution which is facing "a great threat" under the BJP regime would be the real tribute to Dr B R Ambedkar, the Congress said Thursday on 62nd death anniversary of the iconic Dalit leader.
In the middle of the fourth leg of its Jan Sangharsh Yatra campaign in Amravati district of Maharashtra, the opposition party took out a 'Save Constitution' procession at Daryapur.
"The RSS and BJP have always taken a stand against the Constitution. The Constitution is facing a great threat in the last four years," state unit chief of the Congress Ashok Chavan said in a statement.
"The Congress is committed to resist casteism and protect the Constitution. Protecting Ambedkar's ideology and the Constitution he gave is the real tribute to him," he added.
The BJP was planning to "amend the Constitution" and the Congress would not let it happen, he said.
Prithviraj Chavan and other senior state Congress leaders also took part in the procession.
Jan Sangharsh Yatra, the party's outreach campaign ahead of the next year's elections, has covered parts of Western Maharashtra, Marathwada and North Maharashtra in the previous three rounds.
