PATNA: Patna University Students’ Union (PUSU) president-elect and Chhatra JD(U) representative Mohit Prakash has vowed to work for infrastructure development in colleges and hostels. “Credit for the victory of Chhatra JD(U) candidates in PUSU polls also goes to good works of CM Nitish Kumar,” he tells TOI’s Sheezan Nezami. Excerpts:
What are your priorities as PUSU president?

I will work for getting central university status for Patna University and improving infrastructure in colleges and hostels, which lack proper laboratories, drinking water facility and hi-tech libraries. I will also request the state government to introduce shuttle bus service for the students of PU.

What are your plans for girl students?

I will urge the police department to set up police posts outside the campuses of Patna Women’s College and Magadh Mahila College, the two prominent colleges for girls in the city. This will make college girls feel secure.

What’s your say on controversy surrounding JD(U) national vice-president Prashant Kishor’s meeting with PU vice-chancellor?

Prashant Kishor ji is our senior and he has shown us the right path. People can accuse him of influencing polls, but the fact is that we won the election because of students’ support. We had highlighted the good works of CM Nitish Kumar during campaigning and the students recognised it by making us victorious.

JD(U) and BJP are running the state government together. Yet, student wings of the two parties fought PUSU election separately. Why?

Running the state government and working for the benefit of students are two different aspects. The ABVP candidates have also won some posts. We will work together for the betterment of the university and its students.

Was caste a factor in PUSU election?

Caste had nothing to do with this election. The term ‘student’ itself is a caste and we all belong to this caste only.
