Would YOU take a bath in this? The Australian town where the tap water is BROWN

  • The poor quality of an Australian town's tap water has sparked outrage online
  • Residents are now calling for more to be done to prevent issues with filthy water
  • The Doomadgee water treatment plant had a million dollar overhaul in 2010

An Australian town's undrinkable brown and muddy tap water has shocked social media users.

A woman posted pictures online of her bath on Wednesday showing filthy water coming out of her taps from her home in Doomadgee, a small Aboriginal settlement in Northern Queensland.

She claims the water has been an issue in the area for years but the poor quality hasn't improved despite the Doomadgee water treatment plant being handed millions of dollars for an overhaul in 2010.

The upgrade included a refurbishment of the water treatment plant, upgrades to filter units and new electronics.

But that does not appear to have helped residents who have reported that their tap water is still discoloured.

Social media users were repulsed by the images shared online and are now calling for the government to step in to help.

'That's disgusting I wouldn't let my pets drink or bathe in that,' one person said.

'Maybe whoever is in charge of your water up there needs to bath there (sic) family in the same water. And most of all i hope they do something about it,' another person said.

The upgrade was a joint State and Federal Government funded project but still the residents have to put up with filthy tap water.

Management of the infrastructure, including the water treatment plant, lay with the Doomadgee Aboriginal Shire Council.

Daily Mail Australia contacted the Doomadgee Aborignial Shire Council, and the office of the Minister for Natural Resources for comment.
