Overflowing compactor bins is a routine scene in Agaram in Perambur and the residents face the menace of uncleared garbage and stench on a daily basis.
The garbage bins on the street are not cleared on a regular basis and residents have made many complaints

Being one of the densely populated areas, the amount of garbage is also high. But due to the irregularity of the conservancy workers, the garbage remains uncleared and sometimes it stays there for several months. Residents complain that the civic workers do not clear the garbage from the compactor bins regularly.
Pushpa Sakthivel from Agaram told Dt Next, “A garbage bin is located exactly opposite to my house and the first thing I see in the morning is the uncleared garbage. The very sight of overflowing garbage makes me unconfortable in the morning,” said Pushpa.
She also said that though the contract workers visit their street, they collect only the garbage from the houses that pay them regularly. “People who do not pay for them put the garbage in the compactor bins, but the garbage does not get cleared by the civic workers. As a result, the entire street stinks,” Pushpa added.
Another resident, Sundari, said that due to the uncleared garbage many of the facilities in the area could not be utilised. “There is a ground near our home but there are three overloaded garbage bins at its entrance. Due to this, parents do not allow children to play there,” said Sundari.
She also said that the residents had asked the civic workers to clear the garbage on several occasions, but they refused to clear the garbage.
When the Corporation Zonal official was inquired about the uncleared garbage in Agaram, the official said that he will send the civic workers immediately to clear the garbage.
Agaram is one of the densely populated areas in Perambur with a mixed population as even Anglo Indians are present on the eastern part of the area. Agaram junction is a key location in Perambur as vehicles from Retteri, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar and Perambur converge there.
