NEW DELHI: Armed with evidence of transaction trails in the alleged Rs 423 crore bribery case in the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal, the Enforcement Directorate will seek custody of middleman Christian Michel once his CBI remand is over.

Sources said ED has mapped all transactions in the alleged bribery flowing from AgustaWestland to its Indian beneficiaries through Michel’s front entities in Dubai and the UK.

ED and CBI had presented documentary evidence before authorities in Dubai to seek Michel’s extradition, trailing the alleged payoffs in the VVIP chopper deal.

In the Rs 3,700 crore deal, kickbacks of Rs 423 crore was alleged paid to Indians and some foreigners by the Italian manufacturer Finmeccanica.

ED has filed three chargesheets in the case and had arrested Shivani Saxena in July last year under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act for her alleged involvement in receiving the proceeds of crime in the bribery case.

Shivani is the wife of Dubai-based NRI businessman Rajiv Shamsher Bahadur Saxena. “Rajiv Saxena is the beneficial owner of Interstellar Technologies Ltd, Mauritius, and the two are partners/directors in UHY Saxena, Dubai, and Matrix Holdings Limited, Dubai,” the ED had claimed.

ED alleged “both the companies received proceeds of crime in Dubai bank accounts from Interstellar Technologies.”
