Vadodara: The city stands a bright chance of housing an institute to train Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in unarmed combats.
Donald Melville, an acclaimed martial arts instructor, has sent a proposal to the CRPF to establish the institute near national highway-8 Vadodara. “Currently, I train CRPF personnel for few weeks and then the best 15 among them are given advance training. But if we are able to start an institute for instructor training in Vadodara, I will start a year-long training course. A proposal for the institute that may be built near NH 8 has already been sent to the concerned authorities,” Donald told TOI.
Donald has designed the entire course of unarmed combat and the trainees will have to stay for the entire year in the city to complete the course. Donald began training CRPF personnel in 2016 and has trained hundreds of men apart from senior officials.
Atul Karwal, IG Training, CRPF praised Donald through a video message and said that he is one of the best instructors in the country.
The idea behind training the CRPF men in unarmed combat is to hone their ability in dealing with internal security issues effectively. Army men who serve in Kashmir have been trained in dealing with mob that tries to snatch their weapons.
Forty-four-year old Donald has trained men from Border Security Force (BSF), Border Wing, Special Task Force and National Police Academy along with police officials.
A master in Wing Tsun combat that trains men in defeating the opponent without any arms, Donald has also trained Karwal and many senior IPS officers. He was felicitated on Thursday for his contribution in training the armed forces. Gujarat assembly speaker Rajendra Trivedi attended the occasion along with mayor Jigisha Sheth.
