The Panangad police on Wednesday arrested three employees of Kumbalam toll plaza on the charge of assaulting a driver.
The arrested were identified as Ragavendra, 23, and Sarvesh Patel, 24, both from Uttar Pradesh, and Giri Babu, 26, from Andhra Pradesh.
They are accused of beating up the driver of a mini lorry at the toll plaza on December 3. Aashik, 38, of Aluva, was returning after delivering a load at Kayamkulam when he was subjected to the assault.
“He had taken the return pass and initially waved in. But then he was stopped by the one manning the counter by slamming the stop bar against his vehicle. When he questioned it, he was mercilessly beaten up by the three,” said K. Dijesh, Sub Inspector, Panangad police.
The victim had undergone a surgery for brain tumour and still suffers from a frail arm. He had initially chosen not to lodge a complaint but later changed his mind. “We examined the CCTV footage and found the complaint to be authentic,” said Mr. Dijesh.
