PUNE: Civic Chief Naval Kishore Ram has asked officials of the Election Department to be sensitive towards people with special needs.

He was speaking at an event in the city on International Day of Persons with Disabilities, on Monday. He said that as part of accessible elections called by the Election Commission of India (ECI), it must be ensured that voters with special needs have good access to polling stations.

Accessible election is a part of ECI’s pursuit in its mission ‘leave no voter behind’ with special focus on ‘persons with disabilities’.

Pune district Deputy Electoral Officer Monika Singh said that people with special needs will be allowed to vote on ground floor of polling stations and will be provided all the necessary help.

Deputy Commissioner (Disability) Nitin Dhage said that the message of early detection and early treatment should be spread in the society. The district administration has selected international swimmer Suyash Jadhav as the brand ambassador of the campaign for registration of voters with special needs.
