  • Biba Horvatic was forced to bite down on the aggressive dog's tail in a VIC park
  • The dog's owner has been ordered to pay Ms Horvatic thousands in bills

A woman bit down on a dog's tail as a desperate last resort to stop the animal from aggressively attacking her beloved kelpie-cross Mimmie.

Biba Horvatic first had to poke the Staffordshire terrier-cross named Theo in the eye before biting his neck and tail to put a stop to the vicious attack at Point Henry, Victoria, the Geelong Advertiser reported.

Theo's owner, Jessie-Mae Taylor was charged with causing serious injury to Ms Horvatic and her dog as well as owning two unregistered dogs, and appeared before Geelong Magistrate's Court on Monday.

The court heard that Taylor's dog ran over to Ms Horvatic and Mimmie in an off-lead dog area on the afternoon of September 4.

Unprovoked, the dog began attacking Mimmie, who was restrained on a lead, the court heard.

Mimmie began yelping as Ms Horvatic desperately called for help.

Council prosecutor Wayne Lugg said: '(Ms Horvatic) poked the dog in the eye but it wasn't fazed'

'She then grabbed the offending dog's neck and bit on it. It still didn't let go of Mimmie. As a last resort (she) bit down on Theo's tail, and the dog finally let go.'

The prosecutor also noted that Theo's owner made little attempted to help or restrain her dog.

Taylor was ordered to pay Ms Horvatic $472 for Mimmie’s vet bills, $1200 to the council for Theo’s impoundment fees and $125 court costs as well as a $1500 fine, the Geelong Advertiser reported.
