Malema says "the process was fair".

EFF leader Julius Malema up next, starts off his address calmly, in a measured tone.

Mbabama finishes strongly: "We reject the report of the Constitutional Review Committee for the farce that it is."

Up next is the DA's Mbabama. She starts off by saying changes don't need to be made to the Constitution, but changes need to be made to the government, so that issues of the dispossession of land can be addressed.

Mbabama also refers to "rabble-rousing" EFF members, insinuating that they had no parental guidance during their formative years.

Maila finishes: "Give the people what they want."

Maila calls out and names MPs from opposition parties who were not in agreement with the proposal to amend Section 25 of the Constitution.

14:21

Maila: "The Constitution should be explicit, that expropriation without compensation is one means that can be used to address the skewed land ownership patterns. Mostly, the people were not comfortable with the 1913 cut-off, claiming that the original sin is as old as when Jan van Riebeek set foot at the Cape, on the 6th of April 1652 at 4 o'clock."

14:16

Maila: From the outset, it should be clarified that this house did not give the committee a mandate to conduct a referendum.

Though it is of no significance, 65% of written submissions were against the amendment of the Constitution.

After getting some house matters in order, the debate starts with Maila of the ANC, as scheduled.

Land Expropriation: CRC's report to be considered in both Houses of Parliament

Both Houses of Parliament are expected to consider the Joint Constitutional Review Committee's (CRC) report which recommends that Section 25 of the Constitution be amended to allow land expropriation without compensation.

The National Assembly will consider the report on Tuesday, while the National Council of Provinces will consider it on Wednesday.*

This, after the Western Cape High Court dismissed AfriForum's urgent interdict application on Friday, which was aimed at preventing MPs from voting on the report.

A heated debate is expected. The land question is an emotive issue and parties either vociferously support or oppose expropriation without compensation.

The ANC, EFF, NFP and UDM support the adoption of the report, while the DA, IFP, FF Plus, Cope and ACDP are opposing it.

Land: ANC 'determined' to press on after court win, but AfriForum's fight 'far from over'

"I think it is a victory for South Africans that we can continue with land reform and uniting our country," ANC MP Vincent Smith said on the steps of the Western Cape High Court on Friday.

He was speaking after the court dismissed AfriForum's urgent application to have MPs interdicted from moving to adopt Parliament's Constitutional Review Committee report on the amendment on the Constitution to make way for land expropriation without compensation.

The report was adopted on November, 15, and among other things, recommended that Section 25 of the Constitution be amended to allow land expropriation without compensation.

AfriForum 'justifying violent dispossession' with 'embarrassing' court bid – Ngcukaitobi for Parliament

AfriForum came to court to "justify violent dispossession" in its bid to review the Joint Constitutional Review Committee's report recommending expropriation without compensation, Parliament's counsel, advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, told the High Court in Cape Town on Thursday.

Judges Vincent Saldanha and Nape Dolamo will deliver their judgment on the first part of AfriForum's application on Friday morning at 10:00, after arguments were heard on Thursday.

AfriForum asks in an urgent application that MPs be interdicted from moving to adopt the committee's report on Tuesday when it will be debated in the National Assembly and put forward for adoption. The second part of its case is to have the report reviewed.

Land reform is about black farms, not braai spots - Mabuza

Deputy president David Mabuza told the National Assembly in Parliament on Thursday afternoon that the committee on land reform, which he chairs, was fundamentally opposed to land reform that would leave farms derelict and unproductive.

Mabuza was replying orally to questions in the National Assembly. His remarks come as opposition parties prepare to contest Parliament’s decision to adopt a report on the need to amend Section 25 of the Constitution to allow for the expropriation of land without compensation.

The original question came from African National Congress MP Machwene Semenya, who asked Mabuza to explain the activities and achievements of government, through the National Food and Nutritional Security Coordinating Committee, in food security programmes.

No disaster coming, says Nafcoc leader on land expropriation

The redistribution of land under the proposed expropriation without compensation law must not only be aimed at addressing past injustices but also unlock generational wealth, says National African Federation Chamber of Commerce (Nafcoc) president Lawrence Mavundla.

"If implemented correctly, land redistribution in South Africa is likely to change the economic landscape of the country," said Mavundla, speaking on the sidelines of the Free Market Foundation conference on security of property rights on Tuesday.

"Land must be used for the benefit of the country and the economy… particularly people who will work to ensure food security to ensure economic development, including those who were historically marginalised and denied property rights," he said.

Land: Committee adopts report recommending expropriation without compensation

The Joint Constitutional Review Committee on Thursday adopted a resolution that Section 25 of the Constitution be amended to allow expropriation without compensation.

Following a lengthy process of public consultation and deliberation, the EFF's Floyd Shivambu sponsored a motion on Thursday recommending that the Constitution be amended, mirroring the recommendation the ANC previously proposed to the committee.

The DA's Annelie Lotriet offered a different motion, recommending that the Constitution not be amended because the Constitution already makes provision for land reform.

The committee dismissed her motion, with 12 votes against four, and adopted the EFF's proposal by the same margin.
