Eighteen youth associated with militant outfits were arrested in three separate operations of security forces, while five youth were weaned away from militancy in Kashmir, according to the police on Monday.
The police said it successfully busted two modules of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) in Pulwama’s Awantipora and Khrew areas. “Ten of JeM associates were arrested in these operations,” police said.
The police said a special team was constituted “in view of surge in terror attacks in Tral”.
“A huge quantity of incriminating materials was recovered from this terror module, including gelatin sticks, detonators, materials for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and grenades. All the incriminating materials have been taken in case records to probe their complicity in other terror crimes,” said the police.
Gun snatching foiled
The police said eight militant accomplices were detained in north Kashmir’s Baramulla who were plotting to snatch service rifles.
“Based on a credible input, a criminal conspiracy was hatched to snatch weapons from on-duty police personnel in Baramulla, Tangmarg and Srinagar areas,” said the police.
In another incident, another special police team traced five missing boy from Srinagar. “Parents of these boys had received phone calls from their kids who had left for school in the morning, informing that they are going to join the militant ranks,” said the police.
“They were brought back safely. All the five boys were counselled and handed over to the parents,” said the police.
Meanwhile, militants and security forces exchanged fire in south Kashmir’s Shopian and Pulwama. Militants managed to break a cordon in Shopian, while Army personnel were fired upon at a check point from a car the militants were travelling in,” said the police.
