From tips to crack the entrance examinations to the integration into the Civil Services and the various career options students can choose from in the country or abroad, a career guidance programme organised jointly by The Hindu Edge Career Guidance Sessions presented by Chinmaya University here on Tuesday, offered it all.
The programme, held at Mamman Mappila Hall, Kottayam, saw the speakers highlight the need for students to navigate through a constantly changing labour market and pursue whatever career they chose with passion. As many as 850 Plus Two students from fourteen prominent schools in and around Kottayam turned up for the event, which would help them understand how the available career options relate to their own interests and talents.
In their opinion, insufficient knowledge of available career options was a primary barrier to finding meaningful employment, and career guidance sessions will help lay out a career plan that is chosen, designed, and carried out by the youth themselves.
“The key question is what you actually want to be in life. Once you decide that, nothing in this world is going to stop you from achieving it,” said Hari Sankar, District Police Chief, inaugurating the event.
‘Be the leaders’
“Never let your lack of communication skills be misconstrued as lack of knowledge. Always come up front, strengthen your communication skills, and be the leaders in your respective professions,” he said.
The sessions were led by Harisundar G., Associate Professor, School of Contemporary Knowledge Systems, Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth; Fr. Thomas Puthussery, director, Darsana Academy; Nicy Binu, director, Santa Monica Study Abroad Private Ltd.; Rajilan M.C., founder chairman and head coach of Research Academy for Creative Excellence; Vinod Chandran, director of Logic; Gris Hikdas, director, Alchemy IAS.
P. Satheesh Kumar, Assistant General Manager, The Hindu, welcomed the gathering.
The main topics discussed included ‘The meaning and purpose of higher education’; ‘How to score maximum in NEET/JEE/State entrance examinations’; ‘Study Abroad’; ‘Emerging Sessions in Commerce and Accountancy’; and ‘Civil Services as a career’.
Chinmaya University was the event sponsor and it was powered by Logic and co-powered by Alchemy IAS. Darsana Academy was the knowledge partner and Santa Monica, the overseas study partner. The programme is an initiative of THEME.
