Manchester City have been dealt a huge blow ahead of a pivotal week in the Premier League title race - with Sergio Aguero a doubt for Saturday’s huge clash with Chelsea.

The Argentinian missed City’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth last weekend with a muscle injury, with Pep Guardiola confirming he was a major doubt for tonight’s trip to Watford.

Club doctors advised the Catalan boss that Aguero could be out until the New Year if he aggravated the injury, with the striker not pictured among the travelling squad for the game at Vicarage Road.

And it has been revealed that Guardiola could have his options limited at the weekend ahead of the visit to Stamford Bridge report the Liverpool Echo.

“The doctors told me (on Friday) Sergio cannot play,” Guardiola said yesterday. “If he plays, maybe it’s four or five weeks off. In that situation, this month, with a lot of games, he was not safe.

“Right now, I’m not quite sure.

“We’ll see. That’s why I said before day by day we see. I speak with the doctors every day, they make a report and a briefing. They say ‘ready’ or ‘not ready’ and we decide.”

Reports now suggest the player has suffered a setback - leading to further concerns over his availability over the next week.

City sit two points ahead of Liverpool with Watford and Chelsea away, with the Reds travelling to Burnley and Bournemouth.
