December 5 is annually celebrated as World Soil Day. It is celebrated as a means to focus on the importance of healthy soil and advocating for sustainable management of soil resources. The day was recommended by the International Union of Soil Sciences and supported by the Kingdom of Thailand and the FAO in 2002. The UN General Assembly officially designated December 5 as World Soil Day in 2014.
