Bulandshahr riots: ‘Tried to save boss, but I had to run for my own life’

+ , the UP police inspector who succumbed to bullet injuries near a village in Bulandshahr, said he made every effort to take his officer to a hospital but indiscriminate firing from a group of men forced him to abandon the jeep and seek his own safety.
“My boss was lying unconscious near a boundary wall. I lifted him up and put him inside the police jeep. But moments after I began driving, a group of men started pelting the jeep with stones and began firing at us,” Ram Ashray, the inspector’s driver is heard saying in a video clip.
“I had to rush and leave the jeep to save myself,” Ashray added.

Ashray was speaking to locals and the media in the video clip. He further said that the men who were firing at them were hiding in sugarcane fields at the site of the incident.
The UP police confirmed that an x-ray had shown that Singh had died of a bullet injury to his head.
The UP government set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident.
“The men began attacking us for the second time today. They were hurling abuses at us and egging on others to hit us,” Ashray says in the clip. Ashray also said that some local people had helped him and his aides rush the injured police inspector to a hospital.
“I had two more colleagues, Birender Singh and Subhash, with me at the site of the incident,” Ashray said.
