The Kerala High Court on Monday sought the response of the State government on a bail petition filed by BJP State general secretary K. Surendran in a case registered against him by the Sannidhanam police on the charge of attacking a woman devotee in Sabarimala.

He said the complainant had not raised any attempt to murder charge. Nor had his name mentioned in the complaint. His arrest was recorded 15 days after the incident. Mr. Surendran alleged that his name was included in the FIR to wreak vengeance as he filed a petition against TDB member K.P. Sankardas, father of S.P. Harisankar who was on duty in Pampa.

‘False cases’

Meanwhile, BJP leader Sobha Surendran on Monday moved the Kerala High Court alleging that the police were registering a large number of false cases against the poor and the downtrodden in the State.

She said that no action was taken against the police officers concerned even if the persons accused in the cases were acquitted. She said an IPS officer had recently questioned a High Court Judge, besides humiliating a Central Minister.

The Supreme Court had directed all Stare governments to hold investigation officers accountable for the acquittals in criminal cases. However, the State was yet to comply with the directive. The petitioner sought a directive to the State and the State Police Chief to furnish all cases from January 7, 2014 till now that had resulted in acquittals.

The petition also sought disciplinary action against officers who had investigated such cases.
