PUNE: A software engineer was arrested on Sunday for allegedly stalking and harassing his former woman colleague after she turned down his marriage proposal.
The suspect, working with a prominent software company, has been arrested under sections 354-D (stalking) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, the Hinjewadi police said, adding a 26-year-old software engineer has lodged a complaint against him.
An officer from the Hinjewadi police said the complainant and the suspect were working in the same company at Hinjewadi. “The suspect wanted to marry her and had even proposed her. However, the complainant turned down the proposal and started working with some other company later,” the officer said.
When she was engaged with someone else, the suspect started harassing her by calling her on her cellphone. “He also used to threaten the woman and even called up the woman’s fiancée to tell him that the woman was in a relationship with him,” the officer said.
Fed up with the constant harassment, the woman lodged a complaint against him on Sunday. “We have arrested the suspect,” the officer said.
