Ghaziabad: Four men were booked on Monday for allegedly thrashing a homeguard who had stopped their SUV for checking near Thakurdwara flyover in Ghaziabad. Though the incident took place on Sunday, the FIR was registered on the basis of a mobile phone video clip that was widely circulated on social media a day later.
The accused, who are in their mid-20s, have been identified as Atul, Ajay, Nitin and Yogesh. The latter is a resident of Mandawali in Delhi while his friends belong to Etawah district in UP.

Police said the homeguard, Sanjay, who is in his early-50s, had stopped the SUV as it was taking a left turn towards Hapur Road. “Sanjay was on duty at the junction when a wireless message flashed that a Maruti Brezza had rammed a vehicle on GT Road and was speeding in the direction of Thakurdwara temple. Sanjay stopped the vehicle for checking its documents but the men roughed him up in their bid to escape. However, with the help of other cops nearby, the men were taken into custody,” said the SHO of Kotwali police station, Jai Karan Singh.

The SUV was seized. The men were detained under Section 151 of CrPC (arrest after learning of a design to commit cognizable offence) in Kotwali police station. A local court granted them bail on Monday.

However, a mobile clip of the four men assaulting the cop soon began circulating .

“We took cognizance of the video clip and registered an FIR. The homeguard had not provided any details about the assault on him. He had only said the accused had threatened and intimidated him. We have despatched teams to trace the accused and arrest them,” SP (city) Shlok Kumar told TOI.
