On Sunday, a 36-year-old woman was arrested by the Kurla government railway police (GRP) for allegedly stealing mobile phones and wallets from train commuters.
According to Hindustan Times, the accused has been identified as Shabnam Shaikh (36). The accused stole these valuables in order to impress her boyfriend with gifts. A Kurla GRP official told the leading daily, “On November 23, 29-year-old Priyanka Tigde, approached us and filed a complaint stating that her phone worth Rs 55,000 had been stolen. We received three more similar theft complaints that day.”
After receiving the complaint, the cops tried to trace the accused by tracking the phone but it was switched off. But, on Sunday, the stolen phone was switched on, and the cops tracked the location. The cops reached the location in Kopar Khairane and saw that the phone was being used by Shaikh’s boyfriend Prakash Jadhav (39). On interrogation, Jadhav told cops that Shaikh gifted the phone to him. The cops also found a gold bracelet worth Rs 1.40 lakh and recovered 10 more mobile phones from couple’s house. Shabnam Shaikh used to target commuters travelling on the central and harbour railway lines.
