KANNUR: Police took a few people in custody for questioning in a case of gang-rape involving a minor girl. No arrest has been made, police said on Tuesday.
The girl, aged 16, gave her statement before a magistrate in Thaliparamba on Tuesday evening. Police said they have intensified the probe and further action would be taken after recording the teen’s statement once again.
“We have also talked to her. We cannot divulge anything now, as the case is a complex one, falling under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act,” a senior police officer said.
The girl said that a woman had lured her into a lodge at Parassinikkadavu, where she was sexually abused by a few people, police said, adding that they were suspecting the involvement of a racket.
Investigators said they must probe how the girl was trapped and if other gangs, too, were involved. Police were also checking of someone known to her had a hand in the case.
Earlier, the girl had approached the women police cell here, but did not file a formal complaint, police said. The complaint was later referred to Thaliparamba police since Parassinikkadavu fell under their jurisdiction.
