GIDDALUR (Prakasam district): Seven men, including two former Indian Army personnel, have been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a 17-year-old girl for about a year in Giddalur village of Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district. Two other accused are on the run.

The minor, an Intermediate student, was allegedly lured by one of the accused, Koyilakuntla Surendra, who mixed sedatives in her drink and raped her. He then invited his friends to join him in the crime. The accused then kept blackmailing the girl and gang-raping her for almost a year, said Markapuram DSP N V Ramanjaneyulu on Monday.

The crime came to light recently after the girl’s parents found her depressed and inquired about her condition. Upon further prodding, she broke down and narrated her ordeal, after which a police complaint was filed.

2 rape accused still on the run

Giddalur police managed to arrest seven of the nine accused, two of whom are former Army personnel who were forced out of service after the medical board declared them unfit. Two other accused are on the run.

The accused have been booked under section 376-D (gang rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC and under the POCSO Act. A probe is underway.
