Farmer killed in tiger attack in Tadoba
Mazhar Ali | TNN | Dec 5, 2018, 03:02 ISTChandrapur: A farmer was killed in tiger attack in the fields of village Arjuni under buffer zone of Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) on Tuesday morning. Deceased Devrao Jiwtode was returning home from his farm when the lurking feline attacked and killed him.
The village is located right at the border of forest under core zone of tiger reserve. Sources claimed that Jiwtode had gone for an overnight vigil in his farm to deter the intruding animals into the standing crop. He was headed for home in the morning when the tiger attacked him. The tiger dragged his body to shrubs around 100m away. The popular Bhanuskhindi nullha of Tadoba flows close to Arjuni village and predators like tigers and leopards have regular movement through it, sources said.
On getting the information, officials of Moharli (buffer) range reached the spot and removed the body after panchanama. Deputy director, TATR (buffer) Gajendra Narvane claimed that they have given ex gratia aid of Rs50,000 cash and cheque of Rs2.5 lakh to the kin of deceased farmers. He informed that family of kin will get a total compensation of Rs15 lakh as per the new GR.
This is the 22nd human kill in the district in predator attack this year. Tigers have killed 14 people so far whereas six others have been killed in leopard attack. Apart from this, sloth bear and wild bores have killed one each.
