NMIMS: Managing Change
NMIMS is focused on grooming future-ready leaders with keen creative minds and a socially sensitive approach
The School of Business Management (SBM) at Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) has a special place in the hearts of B-school aspirants. For most, it is the first choice as a B-school to kick-start a successful corporate career, as, thanks to its location in India’s commercial capital Mumbai, it is a preferred hunting ground for corporates looking to recruit professionals.
In the words of Ramesh Bhat, Dean, SBM, NMIMS, “The learning processes created by the school are at par with the best in India and benchmarked with comparable peer schools across the world.”
NMIMS, as it is popularly known, started life as a business school more than 36 years. But today, it has evolved into a university that offers multi-disciplinary courses across campuses at Mumbai, Shirpur, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Indore and Navi Mumbai.
NMIMS’s value also stems from the fact that it’s one of the seven B-schools in India to be accredited by AACSB International (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), the world’s premier accreditation agency for business education.
This in large part is credited to its over 430 full-time faculty, ever-increasing list of visiting faculty, an actively engaged alumni, strong tie-ups with global management schools, management consulting firms, industry forecasters, etc.
From offering two courses initially — Masters in Management, and Diploma Programme in Management, NMIMS currently offers programmes in management, engineering, pharmacy, architecture, law, business economics, commerce, science, aviation, liberal arts, satiating the thirst of knowledge among students.
In keeping with industry trends, School of Business Management in 2016 introduced several new analytics-oriented electives including Forecasting Analytics, Visual Analytics, Predictive Analytics, inter-disciplinary courses such as Finance for developing marketing strategies, Marketing Analytics, etc.
“Additionally, electives such as Strategies for Transformation in a Digital World, Digital Platforms and Data Monetisation; SMAC and Beyond for Business, Social Media and Web Analytics have been introduced,” says Bhat.
The institute also offers highly flexible distance learning programmes through SBM for continuing education where self-paced learning is the mantra.
All good institutes stand on the strong foundation of a top-class faculty and, at NMIMS University, there is a constant focus on faculty development. “We undertake faculty development programmes nationally and internationally along with industry visits, joint case writing, research projects, sabbaticals, consulting and training assignments” says Bhat.
Where classroom learning is enriched with industry interactions and, opportunities for networking are aplenty, students are definitely going to ask for more. Corporate-run campus activities have seen a steady increase in the past year in the form of case challenges, projects, assignments, visits and curated guest sessions. In fact, the institute is partnering with the biggies in the industry to offer industry-led courses.
The institute’s entrepreneurial spirit of ascertaining and meeting industry needs for talent and skills has helped NMIMS become a leader in designing and delivering effective learning experiences from the perspective of students as well as the industry. Deep environment scanning skills, a highly qualified faculty body, great infrastructure and diversity in student pool enables NMIMS transform management education programmes into education for life.
“SBM ensures the best learning ecosystem with its dedicated faculty, innovative approaches to pedagogy, focus on curriculum which helps harness leadership skills leading to development of socially responsible managers with a global perspective,” says Bhat.
