Cook's Farewell Ton Against India Shortlisted for BBC's Greatest Sporting Moment of 2018

Former England captain Alastair Cook's 147 in his farewell Test innings against India at the Oval, in London, has been nominated for BBC Sports Personality of the Year's Greatest Sporting Moment of the Year award.

Cook called time on an illustrious 161-Test career finishing as England's highest run-getter in the longest format of the game. Going into the final Test against India in indifferent form, Cook cracked a majestic 71 in the first innings. However, the 33-year-old made sure his career got the fairytale ending that it so rightly deserved as he creamed 147 in 286 deliveries - his 33rd Test century - which was greeted by an almost two-minute standing ovation by a packed Oval crowd.

His efforts saw the hosts take the final game by 118 runs and seal the five-match series by a 4-1 margin.

Cook will face stiff competition from England's historic Commonwealth Games gold medal in netball, senior men's team's penalty shootout win over Colombia at FIFA World Cup, Tiger Woods' first PGA Tour win in five years, and Tyson Fury's recovery from two knockdowns against Deontay Wilder in Los Angeles.
