Doctors boycott outpatient services in TN govt hospitals CHENNAI: Government doctors in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday boycotted outpatient services in hospitals across the state as part of their daylong token strike demanding hike in salary.

However, the government has ensured that non-service post-graduates and heads of departments are posted adequately in OP wards in medical colleges in Chennai so that services would not be affected.

Joint action committee of the doctors’ association said the boycott had affected services in districts headquarters hospitals and PHCs.

''We want to have time-bound promotion and pay parity with neighbouring states,” said general surgeon Dr A Ramalingam, member of the joint action group.

The association plans to stop elective surgeries and classes for medical students, four days later. From December 12, OP services will be stopped. They won’t perform postmortems for a day on December 13.

“All these services will come to a standstill between December 27 and December 29,” said Tamil Nadu Government Doctors’ Association president Dr K Senthil.
