The Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), established in 1953, has a unique advantage. Being part of one of India’s most respected universities — the Delhi University (DU) – the FMS benefits from a collaborative association with some of DU’s finest departments, such as Economics, Law, Sociology, Commerce etc. Inputs from various departments offer a wider view and deeper understanding of a good management programme.

With an ever-increasing alumni network, the current batch of students also have unmatched access to information and a cluster of mentors. Another unique aspect of the institute is that it is among the few B-schools in the country where it is mandatory for a faculty member to have a doctoral degree. More than 90 per cent of FMS faculty members are from the Harvard Business School and are involved in projects of national and international organisations.

At FMS, the pedagogy is a mixture of case studies, lectures and role plays, making learning interactive and intense. Every year FMS receives over 35,000 applications for its common entrance test (CET), of which only 90 students are admitted to the institute’s MBA programme. The courses currently offered are MBA Full Time, MBA Executive, MBA Executive HCA, Management Development Programme and Doctoral Programme. The FMS also houses the Shanti Prasad Jain Advanced Management Research Centre, which promotes research on issues associated with management, education and training of aspirants for management roles in industry, executives and academics associated with the discipline of management.

The institute holds a number of interactive sessions, which allow students to network and interact with industry stalwarts. The institute hosts an annual convention and conclaves, which provides a platform for students to interact with members of it alumni, corporate leaders and academics. Students benefit from initiatives like summer internships, live projects and pre-placement offers. At FMS, students also take part in activities that go beyond the classroom.

The institute encourages its students to participate in major competitions initiated by the corporate sector. For example, FMS has won the Amazon Ace Challenge, the Nestle 4P challenge, Mahindra War Room, HUL Lime, and many similar contests. The main reasons for the institute’s dominance in such events are a supportive faculty and a large base of well-connected alumni.

An institute’s success is measured by its alumni and the FMS is very proud of its alumni pool.  Since 1954, FMS has developed a distinct brand equity as a premier institution for studies in management in the country. Through the FMS Alumni Association, the institute strives to reconnect with the distinguished corporate leaders it has turned out over the years.
Industry leaders in the FMS alumni include Ajay Shukla, MD, Asia Pacific Region, Tata McGraw Hill Education, Alok Bharadwaj, SVP, Sales & Marketing, Canon India, Amandeep S. Chopra, President & Head, Fixed Income, UTI Asset Management Company, Amit Tandon, MD, Fitch Ratings India and Anurag Mehra, Director, Positron Advisory Services. Past pupils of Delhi University’s management programme also include Arun Rishi, VP, Middle East & Africa, Kempinski Hotels, Bal Krishan Batra, Executive Director, IDBI Bank,  Brij Uberoi, Executive VP, HR, Rallis India, Dalip Singh, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel,  Geetu Gidwani Verma, Executive Director, Foods, Hindustan Lever and Girish Sharma, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax of the Income Tax Department.

Multiple factors set the FMS apart from other management institutions, like the global brand equity of the University of Delhi, an extremely supportive academic leadership, the unmatched faculty resource (both permanent and guest faculty) and an outstanding alumni network. Together they enable the FMS to carve a niche for itself in the crowded discipline of management.
