Karnataka: NIA court rejects bail to PFI leader Asim Shariff in RSS worker's murder case

BENGALURU: A special court for NIA cases has rejected the bail petition filed by Asim Shariff, local leader Popular Front of India (PFI) in connection with RSS worker R Rudresh murder case.
Special judge Siddalinga Prabhu rejected the plea holding that the materials placed before the court disclose the modus operandi of the offence which is serious in nature.
Arguing for bail, counsel for Shariff had contended that prolonged stay in judicial custody has put applicant’s family into untold hardship.
However, P Prasanna Kumar, special public prosecutor for NIA argued that all the accused including Asim Shariff, who is accused no 5 attended the indoctrination classes conducted by SDPI leader Abdula Abdu Rahman of Whitefield and in the said camp they were motivated to assault the members of RSS as did by PFM members in the neighbouring states.
Rudresh was hacked to death by two men on a motorbike in broad daylight at 12.40 pm in the Shivajinagar area of Bengaluru on October 16 ,2016.
Waseem Ahmed, Mujeeb, Sadiq , Irfan Pasha and Asim Shariff who were arrested a couple of weeks after the murder.
