Vadodara: Eight students from the city have made it to the final round of the National Children's Science Congress (NCSC) organized by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
The 26th national level competition will be held at Bhubaneshwar on December 27. The Gujarat Council on Science and Technology, a part of state government’s Department of Science and Technology and coordinating body of the state level Congress had organized a two days competition at Gujarat Vidyapeeth on December 2 and December 3. Around 300 research projects from all districts competed for their selection for the nationals to be a part of Gujarat state NCSC team.

From Vadodara, the Community Science Centre (CSC), Vadodara, which is the district level NCSC coordinating body, had received 70 registrations of which 61 were presented and ten were selected for the state level competition. Out of these 10 entries, four were selected to present their project work at nationals as a part of total 28 entries selected from across the state.

The winners include Astha Choksi and Remanika Tandon, students of Sant Kabir Indian International School, who guided by Shilpi Ranjan, had showcased ‘teachers friendly duster’ as their project. Vrishin Shah and Tapasya Shah, students of New Era Senior Secondary School, presented a project titled ‘Diamond on the garage’ with guidance of Dr Kavita Ranka.

Guided by Nishi Kaithwas, two other students – Nishi Thakkar and Arya Waghela from Bright Day School’s CBSE unit at Harni – who showcased the project of ‘bio-plastic’ – a new member in the plastic family also emerged as winners.

With guidance of Dr Jyotsna Amin, two students Siddhi Amin and Helly Gandhi submitted their project on traditional food management systems which also made it to the list of winning entries.

“We wanted students to think and analyse on the themes they were working on and at the same time this entire exercise also taught them the importance of documentation and analytical abilities which one would require. We are now going to orient them for the national level round where they would be facing teams from other states,” said Jitendra Gavali, director of CSC, Vadodara.
