Tigers maul 2 crab catchers to death in Sundarbans in a week

Two crab catchers were mauled to death by tigers in separate incidents in the during the past one week, police said Monday.

One incident took place at the forest in Benifeli area on early Monday, while the other one happened on Wednesday last.

A jumped on 42-year-old injuring him severely when a team of five persons were catching crabs. Ghosh's companions attacked the big cat with sticks and oars and the animal fled leaving him.

Police said when they took Ghosh to Kultali hospital, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The victim was a resident of Madhya Gurguriya in Kultali.

Another crab catcher, 45-year-old Dilip Mondal, was mauled to death by a on November 28.

Mondal lived in village under Gosaba Block.
