A supervisor and three grade-III clerks have averred that deputy chief ticketing inspector Yuvaraj of Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU) and four other commercial clerks had restrained the supervisor when employees of a parcel agent entered the office on Wall Tax Road. 

The agent had walked away with the consignment worth over Rs 10 lakh.

In their report filed before RPF on November 15, the staff have accused Yuvaraj of restraining the supervisor who had even pleaded him not to remove the parcel from there. On November 23, RPF had taken a complaint from the supervisor who was on duty then against Yuvaraj for obstructing duty. RPF has yet to initiate disciplinary action against its personnel who had guarded the exit gate on the night the impounded parcels went missing.

A railway source said that the supervisor at the parcel office had initially preferred a complaint of ‘missing’ parcels and subsequently filed a detailed report with the divisional bosses who had suspended the five staff. They were transferred out of Central after revocation of suspension.

Based on CCTV footage at the parcel office and exit gate, RPF identified one of the agents’ men who had scooted off the parcel and questioned him briefly before being escorted away by the agents and his lawyers.

Meanwhile, Yuvaraj, whose suspension was revoked, continues to mark ‘sick’ on the muster roll at Chennai Central daily despite being transferred to Nungamabakkam last month. Personnel department has issued a revised transfer order extending time by December 31 to assume charge.
